Inem

Welcome to Inem (of Lagos) — a Detroit- and Kansas-based culinary experience rooted in Nigeria and designed for connection.

At Inem, we don’t just serve food. We curate moments. Think bold, soulful Nigerian flavors paired with the feeling of family, culture, and ease—the kind you find in top-tier Lagos restaurants, bustling open-air markets, and sunlit beaches on a warm, breezy Sunday. This is food with context. Flavor with memory. Hospitality with intention.

My name is Atinuke Usoro. Born in Detroit, raised between Detroit and Florida, I eventually found my heart—and my grounding—in the rich, bountiful regions of West Africa. It was there that my relationship with food deepened and my love for the art of cooking fully came into focus.

The kitchen has always been my place of comfort and creativity. Cooking is where care becomes tangible. I’m passionate about preparing meals that are nutritious, mouthwatering, and deeply satisfying—because food, to me, is both a work of art and a work of the heart. I’m a come-and-get-it-while-it’s-hot kind of woman. Feeding people is how I show love. It fills your belly—and it feeds my soul.

At Inem, every experience is built on that truth.

What’s our story?

A group of nine people standing outdoors at night, posing for a photo under a decorated blue canopy with string lights, holding bowls and utensils, smiling, with grass ground and a dark, cloudy sky in the background.

My name is Atinuke Usoro, founder and chef behind Inem (of Lagos). I was born in Detroit, raised between Detroit and Florida, and ultimately shaped by the depth, warmth, and abundance of West Africa. Nigeria, in particular, is where my relationship with food transformed from something instinctual into something intentional—where cooking became craft, culture, and calling.

The kitchen has always been my place of grounding and imagination. Food, for me, is both a work of art and a work of the heart. I believe meals should nourish the body, spark memory, and bring people closer together. I’m very much a come-and-get-it-while-it’s-hot kind of woman—because food is meant to be shared in real time, with real people. Feeding people is how I show love. It fills bellies, builds connection, and feeds my soul.

Inem is also a family affair. My husband and our children are my first and most honest critics—and my biggest fans. They’ve loved, tested, and grown with this food from the very beginning. Watching them gather around the table, eager and proud, reminds me that what we’re building isn’t just a brand—it’s a legacy rooted in care, culture, and togetherness.

Our first year in Detroit was a leap of faith and a masterclass in community. Inem came alive through pop-ups and shared spaces—serving food, telling stories, and building trust one plate at a time. From vibrant crowds at Afro Nation activations, to intimate late nights at Yaba Late Night, to innovation-driven spaces like TechTown Detroit, each experience sharpened the vision and affirmed the mission.

Catering partnerships followed naturally. We’ve had the honor of serving organizations like Properus Detroit and 482 Forward, creating menus that matched their purpose—thoughtful, bold, and people-centered.

But the real joy? It’s always been the moment of first bite. Watching someone pause, smile, and fall in love with a dish they’ve never tasted before. Listening to stories sparked by familiar spices or unexpected flavors. That exchange—that human connection—is the heartbeat of Inem.

Inem (of Lagos) is a Detroit- and Kansas-based culinary experience with Nigeria in mind. We bring you cuisine rooted in culture, elevated with care, and served with the warmth of family. Every meal is an invitation—to gather, to remember, and to feel at home.
